Potch (as the name is shortened) is a University town of about 250 000 people, about 120km or 75miles to the South West of Johannesburg. (Map) It is the oldest town in the old Transvaal Province and has a rich history. The University dominates the town with also some other educational institutions and also very good schools and a permanent military base. Potchefstroom has for many years produced top athletes. Some of the most well known is Hezekiel Sepeng, Marius Corbett and Shadrack Hoff. It is also known as the "Home of Sport in the North West Province". The town has already become "home-away-from-home" to many international athletes from many different countries and sports.

Potch is popular for many reasons but also because it has almost no industries and thus very clean air and also low crime rate. It has a good climate (especially in cold northern hemisphere winters when it is summer here) and at 1400m altitude a good balance between Altitude training and Quality training. The North West University facilities are excellent, as well as many other private and Town sports facilities that are world class (see "Facilities").

Form our own experiences as athletes we strive to give the best possible service to sportspeople visiting Potchefstroom, and take care of all the requirements from arrival at Johannesburg Airport to departure. Services include arranging training facilities, accommodation and food, as well as medical services like Sports Medicine, sports massage therapy and physiotherapy.

Climate (Current weather)

Summer	September to May Temps: 22° C - 34° C Warm days and nights Low humidity with few thunderstorms
Winter	May to August Temps: 2° C - 23° C Warm days, cold nights Very dry, almost no rain

Clothing
Cool, light summer wear with a jersey for early evenings. Very cold spells occur during winter (nights) and a jacket is recommended, especially for drives on open vehicles. Hiking boots are essential if going on walking trails.

Water
Tap-water is safe to drink but bottled water freely available if needed.

Things to do in and around Potchefstroom
Potch also has a lot of interesting things to see and do in the area. The famous Vredefort Dome area (World Heritage Site - for adventure sport lovers) is only 20mins away. Many game farms and parks in the area for safaris. Sun City for the more adventurous is about 2 hours drive away. Potch also has some interesting Pubs and restaurants and the normal cinemas, theatres and other night life.
